Arweave (AR)

Arweave (AR) is a decentralized data storage network designed to provide permanent, tamper-proof data archiving. Unlike traditional cloud storage or decentralized storage solutions that require recurring payments, Arweave enables users to store data “forever” through a one-time fee model.

The network is built around a unique blockchain-like structure called the Blockweave. Instead of requiring nodes to store the entire history of data sequentially, Blockweave links new blocks to both the previous block and a randomly selected historical block. This architecture incentivizes long-term data retention across the network.

Arweave operates using a consensus mechanism known as Proof-of-Access (PoA). To mine new blocks, participants must demonstrate access to previously stored data. This ensures that historical data remains available and verifiable over time.

A core innovation within the ecosystem is the Permaweb — a permanent, decentralized web layer built on top of Arweave. Applications, websites, and data hosted on the Permaweb are censorship-resistant and permanently accessible once uploaded.

The AR token powers the network and is used for:
