Wrapped Bitcoin (WBTC) is a tokenized representation of Bitcoin designed to operate on smart contract-enabled blockchains, most prominently Ethereum. It allows Bitcoin holders to use their BTC within decentralized finance (DeFi) ecosystems without selling or converting their underlying assets.

WBTC is fully backed 1:1 by real Bitcoin held in custody. For every WBTC token minted, an equivalent amount of BTC is locked with regulated custodians. This collateralization model ensures that WBTC closely tracks Bitcoin’s market price.
